Tips for Choosing a Michigan Wedding Venue:

  1. Season and Weather: Consider the time of year when booking a venue. Summer and fall are the most popular wedding seasons in Michigan, but if you’re dreaming of a winter wonderland wedding, Michigan’s snowy season can be magical.
  2. Size of the Guest List: Be sure the venue can comfortably accommodate your guest list. Michigan has a range of venues from intimate spaces to grand ballrooms.
  3. Budget: Michigan offers venues at every price point, so it’s important to factor in costs such as catering, rentals, and decor when choosing.
  4. Location: Consider whether you want a destination wedding (Michigan is a beautiful state to visit!) or something closer to home for convenience.

Catherine and Luke were celebrated at the most stunning, February, Gull Lake Country Club wedding! From custom stationery and bespoke rental items to full floral and event design freedom, this blue, white, and green palette wedding is one of our all time favorites.

Planning a Gull Lake Country Club Wedding

Not to be outdone by the design, Lynette planned and executed an over-the-top, luxury wedding that guests will certainly be talking about for years to come.

Blue mother of the bride dress
West Michigan Wedding

We absolutely loved the design of only lateral florals in Catherine’s maid’s bouquets. We combined a mix of blue and white delphinium alongside the best green hellebores we’ve ever had the privilege with which to design.

Fireplace Installation

In our professional opinion, no Gull Lake Country Club wedding will be completely henceforth without this incredible basket and smilax design. Showcased in color above and B&W in the background below, it was so romantic and the perfect way to enhance a fireplace.

Gull Lake Country Club Wedding Room Reveal

The room reveal is admittedly both of our favorite moment of the day. While most designers and wedding planners will tell you the bouquet handoff is the most special; we have to put the room reveal right up there! In this case, Catherine and Luke and Mother of the Bride, gave us a lot of design freedom. Our design proposals are full of inspirational photos with a lot of verbiage in how we plan to execute each design. However, there’s nothing quite like seeing it all come together for the first time. Look at their faces above and the photos below. Your mind would also be blown. I know ours were, and we knew exactly how it would all turn out ahead of time!

Custom Place Settings

It’s definitely a splurge, but bringing in every single tabletop item from a hand selected rental company is *chef’s kiss* to a design!

Best Bar Design Ever

This bar design is easily our all time favorite design. This will be nearly impossible to out-do ourselves at any point in time. The key elements were the rented curved bar, custom decal and pattern, newly sourced blue patterned vases with single ingredient flowers, usable goblets to match the color palette, and custom table lamps and menus. Never underestimate how often the bar is visited and how many eyes are on it throughout the evening!

Custom Wedding Bar Gull Lake Country Club Wedding

Entrance Installations

It was very important to our couple that their hometown Club not feel like it does on any given day. They wanted it to feel different, and special and the first thing guests saw when they walked in the door was THIS floral arch. It stood over 10′ tall and framed the staircase and further back, the bar, for an unforgettable first impression.

Thank you to Catherine and Luke, and a special shoutout to MOB, Sarah, for letting us plan and design an absolute dream wedding!

The Vision

Molly and Brian came to us with a vision of natural texture, neutral colors, and romantic candlelight. Even though Molly and Brian’s wedding was 11 days before Christmas, there was nothing holiday-inspired about this Book Tower Detroit wedding. It would be just as gorgeous as an summer wedding as it is a winter wedding!

St. Aloysius Parish Detroit Michigan

The Floral Design

The dried, textural elements we brought into all of the florals were absolutely breathtaking. There’s a million ways to do a green and white wedding, but adding in natural browns and shades of green with organic elements and in the linens is both interesting and different.

The Room Reveal

Happy tears during the couples’ room reveal is everything we could ask for! Makes our designer and planner dreams come true!

Peep the incredible patterned linen that completely finished off the overall aesthetic we were going for!

Who says you need floral on a welcome sign to make it pop The ombre envelopes were such a statement in addition to being filled with love letters to each of their guests!

We absolutely loved being a part of planning and designing Maddie’s Bat Mitzvah. The Bat Mitzvah celebration centered at The Graduate Hotel in Downtown East Lansing. The design featured warm and cool jewel tones ranging from hot pink and fuschia to eggplant and navy. The color palette popped against the eclectic, yet traditional MSU-detailed boutique hotel.

Planning Process for The Bat Mitzvah at The Graduate

Our planning process always starts with creating and budget and securing a venue. From there, we are able to then create a day’s timeline and room layout. With this information Lynette can get started on the remaining vendor recommendation hires using the timeline and budget she’s created, while Emily gets started on the design.

The Graduate and Day of Logistics

This venue is one of our favorite places to work at both during planning and design. For Maddie’s Bat Mitzvah at The Graduate, her family wanted an area for kids, socializing, and dancing while keeping the quieter dinner area separate. The Graduate has their main ballroom and a number of auxiliary breakout rooms near the Ballroom to allow for this type of event flow. Our team, impressively, flipped the entire dining room, alongside their staff, laying linens and centerpieces in just under 20 minutes. How’s that for efficiency?

From the Designer

This event was fun to design and posed a fun challenge to create a fun atmosphere that felt elevated without using any floral. Floral is one of our top design specialties so it was a fun, change-of-pace design to focus heavily on jewel-toned candle collections. We paired the jewel-toned linens and candle collections with the most incredible velvet soft seating vignettes from Modernly Events. Modernly is one of our very favorite rental companies to use for boutique rental items!

A colorful, pastel, summer wedding at the MSU Horticulture Gardens! Nestled in the heart of Michigan State University’s campus, the Gardens offer a stunning setting for couples seeking a picturesque backdrop for their wedding day. Surrounded by lush landscapes, vibrant flowers, and tranquil paths, this venue provides a natural elegance. The gardens brings together the best of both worlds: the beauty of nature and the joy of love. There’s something magical about celebrating love in a setting as beautiful and serene as the MSU Horticulture Gardens. The fresh scent of flowers in the air, and the stunning natural beauty surrounding you all serve to enhance the love shared between two people. The connection between nature and love becomes even more meaningful when it’s reflected in your wedding day.

Designer’s Perspective

Kimberly absolutely loves colorful flowers. Following our recommendation, we outfitted the tables with a light cafe mocha toned linen and blonde chairs. This allowed for the colorful floral to stand out amongst a neutral base without taking away the impact of the ficus-covered perimeter. We also added pink Amalfi umbrellas to bring a touch of warm toned pink to draw the line of sight upward. We made the conscious decision to limit the number of large candles and opted to stick with votives only. The conservatory does experience high temps in June in Michigan.

Lastly, we had a blast dual-purposing the ceremony arch and aisle florals. What started as the most show-stopping arch and aisle flowers turned into an equally amazing backdrop and foreground to a precious sweetheart table. Overall, the design left our couple completely speechless. Meanwhile our team felt so proud of the beauty we created in a space already known for it’s stunning nature.

A Black and White Wedding at The Collins Off Main in Chelsea, Michigan

Ally and Keegan were married at The Clocktower just a few blocks over! They moved their guests to the venue’s private courtyard which provides a stunning outdoor location for their cocktail hour. The Collins off Main in Chelsea includes exposed brick, vintage chandeliers, and warm wooden floors to create an ambiance that feels both sophisticated and inviting. It is an exquisite venue with a blend of rustic elegance. To bring glam to the wedding day, our design team installed disco balls complete with hanging greenery. This was a beautiful focal point of the already inviting space. Thanks for including us on your big day, Ally and Keegan!

Social Event Behind the Scenes | Michigan Event Planner and Floral Design Team

We take an in-depth, behind the scenes look at what it takes to build out a two-day social event for over 1,000 attendees! Check out Friday’s formal sit-down dinner here and Saturday’s extravaganza here.

Friday, August 4 (7 days until first event day)

A truckload of flowers was delivered and 6 AGE team members began processing over 9,320 stems. Our cooler and design room was packed to the brim with the most beautiful colors. This flower count only included the flowers that came from our wholesaler and none of the local blooms that came the following week.

Monday, August 7th (4 days until event day)

9 AGE Team members continued to process even MORE beautiful blooms, many of them coming from our friends over at Michigan Flower Barn. Towards the afternoon, design day one began!

Enjoy this blurry iPhone shot of what our lunch table looked like this week! So many wonderful conversations with the best in the biz!

Tuesday, August 8th (3 days until event day)

Everyone dove right into Friday’s bold, monochromatic red design first. Buckets were cleared from the cooler as the team blasted through the red florals for Friday in no time.

Then the color started to slowly appear for Saturday’s Design! In terms of recipes, we made sure we had more than enough flowers ordered by creating specific recipes for each line item on the design proposal. Other than making sure that we actually ordered enough blooms, the intention was never for our freelancers to follow the recipes but to get creative with whatever they could creatively dream up in the vessels we had previously prepped.

We are lucky to have a big deck outside to enjoy lunches!

Wednesday, August 9th (2 days until event day)

Lynette’s day was full of last-minute logistic emails and phone calls wrapping up vendor questions. While 10 other AGE team members were in a sea of blooms in our design space. These talented ladies designed over 75 centerpieces and 4 installations for Friday’s event alone.

Saturday’s event included over 100 centerpieces and 7 very large scale installations. Fun Fact: No two centerpieces were alike! We gave our talented ladies full design freedom because we wanted everything to feel very eclectic and mismatched. It was a sight to behold and so amazing to see the results of what they wanted to create each day!

Thursday, August 10th (1 day until event day) – Part 1

Onsite production for the Saturday event at The Breslin Center begins! Normally, this space is utilized for the Michigan State Basketball Teams (Go Green!). We began our transformation by having carpet laid, a 40’x40′ main stage, two 16×12 side stages, and an 8×16 front-of-the-house stage. Battens and trusses were lowered to install the disco balls, while pipe and drape was installed to cover the fold-out bleachers and the lower bowl. Once these basics were done by the Breslin Team, we were ready for the vendor team’s arrival.

The day began by assisting 8 vendor teams with their piece of the puzzle. We would greet them as they arrived, share updated details as needed, and be present for questions and design decisions. This was a 15-hour production day!

The build-out started to take shape!

The custom-wrapped dance floor install began! We wanted something bold as this was a focal point of the entire space. This was the one item in 3 years of planning that didn’t change in vision. We found a rug on Google in different colors, and said, what if this was a dance floor design, but in colors to match the event From there we hand drew what we wanted and passed it along to be fabricated. We knew it was going to be a packed dance floor once the entertainment began.

Thursday, August 10th (1 day until event day) – Part 2

Back at the studio, 10 AGE team members were hard a work finishing up the 40-foot bold and beautiful stage piece. Everyone was assigned a color and they got to work spending the most time on the blending portions of the design. It was fun to watch everyone interact and gameplan with one another at how to achieve the show stopping finished product.

Our floral freelancers are just the coolest! Hands down.

This was another 15-hour production day!

Friday, August 11 (Event day one!)

Lynette started the morning at 8:30 at The Kellogg Event Center to get the team going on production for event one later that evening. After that, she went back to The Breslin Center for another 4 hours to continue monitoring the progress. Disco balls were hung, linens we laid and we began to adjust the spacing of tables and soft seating. The production team began their day with an 8:00 am load-in to begin to build out the stage sound, lighting, and hospitality suites for the entertainment.

Meanwhile, 8 other AGE team members loaded up the vans and headed over to Kellogg Center to begin floral and decor production for Friday’s event. 42 guest tables, a dance floor, lots of soft seating, and beautiful touches filled the Big Ten Rooms. Our team managed 9 vendors during this setup. (and remember, there were different vendors at the other venue finishing their production!)

This event began at 5:00 pm and ended at 11:00 pm. Another 16-hour day for our team!

Saturday, August 12th (Event day two!)

The day began at 9:00 with a van load-in from the AGE Studio. We headed over to the Breslin Center to begin the floral drop! Our team was made up of 12 AGE team members. They set and fluffed pillows, placed votives, and made a few fun impromptu floral installations happen like these banquette couch florals were the best surprise! Today was a whirlwind 16-hour production day.

Core memories include meeting The Temptations and Three Dog Night and getting to enjoy their concert with a few team members.

Shoutout to the Michigan State Hockey Team for throwing on some OG skates and passing out appetizers to our guests!

Behind The Scenes Event Details

If you were keeping track, this 8-day production included a total of 80 hours for the week JUST from our team. Also, if wanted a more accurate amount of total labor hours, we could add up all the hours of every person who worked for our team that week. Now THAT would be a lot, in the hundreds nearing a thousand! That also doesn’t include the 3+ years it took Emily and Lynette to plan and design these events! IT WAS A FEAT!

We are so incredibly proud of these events and the amazing weekend of events the attendees had. We will forever be grateful to our clients for allowing our creative minds to run wild and give them an unforgettable evening. Thank you!!

August 2023 Private Event at the Breslin Center | Michigan Event Planner + Design Team

This once-in-a-lifetime private event was held at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Michigan. This was the second event of the weekend! You can check out night one here. The night before was a classy, formal sit-down dinner event. Tonight, was all about the party! Guests were greeted with three beautiful registration tents and handed a glass of champagne. After checking in, they made their way through the Gilbert Pavilion Entrance of the Breslin Center. The sounds of a String Quartet played while they enjoyed appetizers and custom drinks. The MSU Hockey team was even serving apps on rollerskates!

Our design reflected a mid-century modern vibe with a nod to the 70’s. Reviews from guests who attended the event included, “The details, both large and small, were dazzling and magnificent…” and “Every detail was impeccable and no detail was forgotten.”

The Gilbert Pavilion + Tom Izzo Hall of History Design

This area had 3 bars, 2 photo booths, 4 soft seating sections, and plenty of cocktail and bistro tables for guests to sit down and enjoy the themed food station.

The Arena Details

After an hour and a half of mingling, guests made their way down to the area floor for more spectacular details! The step entrance was flanked by floral and wood arches to indicate the entrance to the arena.

The Stage Details

40 feet of color-blocked floral sat on custom planter boxes to line the stage! We also had custom neon letters, showcasing the school years. One of the best moments was the attendees pulling our roses from the stage and handing them to The Temptations while they performed!

The Disco Balls

Custom Wrapped Dance Floor

The Bars

We chose to have 3 themed bars that were a slight nod to the entertainment that night. A fire bar, a stone bar, and an ice bar. They were such a hit!

The Floral and Design Details

We surrounded the large custom-designed and wrapped dance floor with endless soft seating and 4 large pergolas with even more soft seating underneath. We brought in 194 potted plants to create a cozy environment.

Plenty of mixed seating included round tables, banquet tables, and bistro tables for all party sizes.

No two centerpieces were alike! Each one was created by our floral team, who were given the freedom to design whatever their heart felt like. Which, made this event extra special!

We brought in 3 different custom-wrapped cocktail tables which had each of the schools’ mascots on top.

Signage + Stationery

All of the signage was custom and designed in-house! Guests had the opportunity to visit 7 different food stations throughout the night.

There are so many more little details that came together to make this day so special for the attending guests. The custom food menu brought the guests back to their high school glory days. Custom tokens for the guest to take home at the end of the night! The list goes on and on. Guests danced the night away to Three Dog Night AND The Temptations! Even our team was able to meet the bands and enjoy the concert. A core forever memory if you ask us!

This monumental event was 3+ years in the making and we are forever grateful to have played such a pivotal role in this event.
