01. What is your favorite book/book series?
Harry Potter, and more specifically Half Blood Prince. The entire series is absolutely magical every time I read it. Interestingly, it came out right in the prime of middle school, high school, and concluded in college for me, and I never read it until I was an adult. It was a series for “my generation.” A regret I have is being too stubborn to jump on any sort of bandwagon of popular opinion that I missed all the fun when it was coming out and being released.
02. What is one way you practice self-care?
I have an autoimmune disease that has resulted in a massive shift in my approach to eating and overall wellness. With a lot of family support, and the help of a functional medical doctor, I’ve taken the time to learn how to best care for my body through diet, exercise, and education on a daily basis.
03. Biggest pet peeve?
Slow walkers. That scene in Zootopia where the sloths are all working at the DMV is the exact feeling I get when I’m walking behind or with someone who walks slowly for no reason. I suppose the underlying pet peeve is a dislike for people who waste my time, and apparently I don’t have time to walk slowly.
04. Favorite time of year? Favorite time of day?
Summer…like dead of summer 90 degree days. I HATE being cold. And I love mornings. I love how refreshed, focused, and full of possibility I feel first thing in the morning, as long as it’s after the sun is coming up.
05. Where were you born?
F-F-F-F-Flintown.
06. The worst hairstyle you’ve ever had?
Sometime around maybe 3rd or 4th grade I had bangs. I decided I no longer wanted bangs. So I took scissors and cut them off at the root. Spikes….apparently, I wanted a year of spikes.
07. Prefer to read or watch?
Ugh, do I have to? Both! I love watching, or binging TV with my husband. We watch and enjoy more TV than anyone in their right mind would say is healthy. On the flip side, I cannot go to sleep at night without first reading to unwind, and think it’s one of my most healthy habits. I consume, on average, 1-2 books a week. Also, the book is ALWAYS better than the movie.
08. If you could choose one hobby that now seems out of your reach either financially or time-wise, what hobby would you take up and why?
I’ve always thought I would have been really good at surfing. You really have to live somewhere that has great ocean waves to develop this as a hobby and Michigan is not the place for that. But I could TOTALLY have been beachside Barbie who surfs and plays volleyball if I lived in California.
09. What’s one thing you’re really proud of?
There’s a lot. I’m MOST proud of the person my daughter is growing to be. I’m proud of the business I bought and continue to grow. I’m proud of how hard I’ve worked to improve my health. I’m proud of all I accomplished in school and sports my entire life, and I’m proud of all of the health and success of my friends and family. Now….with that out of the way. The single time I remember FEELING the most pride was in 5th grade. Stay with me…in 5th grade, you could get “appointed” as safety patrols, and only a few students got picked to do this. I don’t know how or why this was decided; looking back maybe they only picked the kids that wanted to do it. BUT I remember the feelings and nerves SO vividly and I remember the absolute 100% swell in pride when they announced my name.
1o. What is your overall home design style?
Modern, contemporary, and NEW. I love NEW things and I don’t like to have a lot of THINGS to clean. I love change and I love when things feel updated. I get excited to open a new tube of toothpaste. The thought of going antiquing or buying an old house filled with character to remodel are things of my nightmares.
