On this month’s installment of Wedding Planning Tips, we talk venue provided linens, boutonnieres, corsages, and booking wedding vendors.
Q1. Would you suggest we use the linens provided by the venue to save cost?
A1. Not necessarily, but maybe. This is completely dependent on your color palette, the type and style of linen your venue offers, and your centerpiece design. Many venues will offer a very basic, square linen in either black, white, or ivory. These linens are not floor length and are generally a lower quality fabric (think corporate luncheon). Now some venues will allow for a pay upgrade to floor-length linens, again typically in black, white or ivory in a basic poly. If you were already planning to use this type and color linen, then jump on that girlfriend.
Now, a very common scenario is when a couple has a very neutral color palette or a color palette in the blue family. Let’s say you love shades of dusty turquoise. Unfortunately, there is not one single fresh blooms that naturally grow in this color palette. Instead, we will suggest bringing in this color with a linen and then keeping your floral centerpieces in line with the rest of your color palette. Some colors are available only in premium bloom florals. So allocating your cost to a linen you love in lieu of simplifying your centerpiece can elevate the overall design by bringing in the color without breaking your budget.
Q2. Would you suggest we keep the tradition of boutonnières and corsages?
A2. Nopity, nope, nope, nope. These are SUCH a waste of your budget, and honestly, none of the men, including the groom, care. They also get smooshed with each passing hug and do not retain their shape beyond when they are initially pinned on no matter how hearty of blooms/greenery we use. As for corsages, moms and grandmas spend so much time shopping for a dress and coordinating jewelry. It’s such a shame to then have them hide that gorgeous bracelet that perfectly coordinates with their dress with a floral design that coordinates with your wedding aesthetic and not necessarily their dress. Further, it’s nearly impossible to provide a wrist corsages that truly fit everyone’s wrist comfortably; although we try our best. So yes, skip it!
Q3. Is there a correct order of booking vendors?
A3. You should generally be selecting both your date and venue first. The exception to this being if you are planning to hire a full-service wedding planner who will also guide you through this process. Inquire here for this service with us. Following booking your venue and date, there is no one right answer other than the answer to the question of what is most important to you. We like to ask our clients what are the top 3 most important items of your wedding day. If they say aesthetics, having fun, and being able to remember the day, then Voila! You need to book your florist/designer, then your DJ/Band and then your photographer. Take your list and book in that order.
